Office for Public Management (OPM) are interested in speaking to carer’s looking after BME elderly individuals, with regard to some research they are carrying out on behalf of Essex County Council.

OPM have been commissioned to carry out research to inform Essex County Council’s Single Equalities Scheme. This scheme will detail how council services are to be developed with the needs of all residents in mind, across all 6 diversity strands (being Age, Disability, Gender, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation).

Within the “Race” strand, the council is particularly interested in looking at how to address the care needs of elderly BME groups. There is concern that the council does not necessarily understand how their provision for care for the elderly should best be adapted (as and where it needs to be) for different ethnic groups.

They would like to get in contact with carer’s to discuss their views on what the Council should be doing to make sure they provide proper care for all elderly people.

If you are a BME carer or know of someone who cares for an elderly BME individual, they would be very happy to hear from you. They would like to carry out our research over the next few weeks, so if you are interested, please contact Natasha Johnson directly by phone on 020 7239 7827 (Monday to Friday between 9:30 and 5:30pm) or you can send an email to njohnson@opm.co.uk

Southend Domestic Abuse Forum is reaching out to residents, community groups, organisations and informal networks in Southend-on-Sea, to ask for their opinions on domestic abuse in the area.

Over the next couple of months the Forum will be asking the people of Southend-on-Sea to express their opinions on domestic abuse in the borough, in a questionnaire that will be available at www.southendcdrp.co.uk, as well as on the SAVS website (see below)

The Domestic Abuse Forum will use the responses to determine whether they are appropriately dealing with domestic abuse and are providing the right support and advice. The responses to the survey will be used to help plan the future work of the Forum.

If you would like more information, contact Althea Cribb, Southend Domestic Abuse Partnership Officer, at domesticabuseforum@southend.gov.uk, on 01702 344329 or on 07825 273838.
