Following the success of previous ‘drop-in’ police surgeries, further monthly sessions are planned at Leigh Library throughout 2010. These will take place in the ground floor of the branch library in Broadway West on Tuesdays, starting either at 10am or 3pm and running for 90 minutes.
The Leigh Library police surgeries will be provide the opportunity for local residents to meet locally-based Neighbourhood Specialist Officer, Pc 970 Leon Pezzuolo.
At the free surgeries, library visitors can find out about neighbourhood policing initiatives, receive expert advice about home security, personal safety and pick up free crime prevention information from a community-based officer.
Surgeries take place once a month (excluding April) and a full calendar of surgery dates is given below. No appointments are necessary and everyone is welcome - simply come along and meet your ‘Bobby in the Library’.
Community and Diversity Team Manager, Simon Wallace says “Libraries are pleased to be working in partnership with the Neighbourhood Policing Teams to help make Leigh a safer
place for local residents”.

SE Essex Organic Gardeners are running their second series of organic gardening seminars in 2010, which are being led by one of our members, Robert Wiseman.
People in our community are at different levels of understanding the need for change, and engagement with the change, so conversations, films and seminars play a big role to get them thinking. This way, even if they are not doing anything now when the real food crunch comes in - as a result of climate change and peak everything - they will at least know about organic growing and alternative ways to do things.
In Cuba, organic didn't catch immediately after the collapse of imports from the Soviets and the US embargo. It took their organic farmers and researchers years to spread the word, despite it being the obvious solution to their problems.
DATE AND TIME
Saturday 20 February, 9.30am
DETAILS OF EVENT
Our seminar is designed to encourage the “growing of your own food” both on an allotment, in your own garden and even on the patio using the principles of organic gardening. With more young people becoming interested in growing their own fruit and vegetables it is important that they are successful in their efforts, helping to build a new generation of gardeners.
