To be held at Eastwood Community Centre, Western Approaches, Southend-on-Sea SS2 6XY.  Come along and join us to celebrate Onam - a Harvest Festival of Kerala & Homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. Activities include Special flower arranging, games for children, tug of war, cultural competitions. Traditional Onam Lunch. Evening celebrations include dancing, folk arts, orchestra and traditional dinner.

On Sunday August 29th from 1pm-8pm - you are invited to “Diversity of Music” Event at the Nelson Pub, North Road, Westcliff SS0 7AB. Artists playing will be Walk-In Coma, Stratus, Dirty Fairy’s, Azalea plus many more guest artists. £3 entrance fee. There will be a raffle and auction. Food can be purchased at the bar. From 31st August - 6th September 2010, the town’s Central Library will host a display by Southend Community-in-Harmony Partnership (SCHP).

Initiated in 2003, Southend Community-in-Harmony Partnership (SCHP) has become a well established umbrella organisation which exists for the benefit of the range of communities in Southend-on-Sea, and represents many local organisations to help promote and create an inclusive and harmonious community.

Through partnership working SCHP aims to encourage and support the people of Southend to understand each other, celebrating the diverse social, cultural, religious and ethnic heritage of our community and continuing to work towards a harmonious, just and compassionate multi-cultural society where all are valued and respected.

Since 2004 SCHP has also delivered “The Big Event” – a free, annual, open air summer event which brings together local people from different ages, cultures, nationalities, races and religions. This high profile, flagship event typically attracts over 3,000 visitors, unites the wider community and reflects the social and cultural diversity of Southend-on-Sea. Around 100 contributors provide organisational displays, bouncy castles, multi-cultural entertainment, fringe events, ethnic food and sports events.

At Southend Central Library: Ground Floor Meetings Room. DIAL-Southend (Disability Information Advice Line) supports disabled people, their families and carers. The local group is holding a further series of monthly drop-in sessions at Southend Library to offer information and advice on a wide range of subjects including: benefits, housing, debt, employment, holidays, equipment, social care and much, much more. The sessions during 2010 will be on: Wednesday 11th August (10.00 - 3.00pm); Wednesday 8th September (10.00 - 3.00pm); Wednesday 13th October (10.00 - 3.00pm).

These free events will be held in the Ground Floor meetings room, which is accessible to wheelchair users. There is free car parking for Blue Badge holders.
