At Healthwatch Southend we provide an Information Service to help people to understand, navigate and access health and care services in the Southend Borough, as well as gathering people’s experiences to help improve local services.

We know that people often struggle to access the support and information they need and that the pressure on health and care services is increasing. Each month we receive hundreds of enquiries about topics including GP registration, accessing social care, hospital discharge, making a health complaint and finding local services. Healthwatch Southend is an independent and confidential service, we listen to people’s experiences and provide information about their next steps and the choices  available to them.

The Information, Guidance and Engagement Officer works in collaboration with the Health Complaints Advocate and the Senior Officer to gather evidence of people’s lived experiences of health and social care services. We pass information gathered to service commissioners and providers to ensure these experiences and opinions are taken into account when decisions are being made about local services.

Healthwatch Southend is comprised of a small team of professionals and trained volunteers. We  are an effective agent of local change, and our success depends upon building an accessible, person-centered Information Service, as well as developing constructive partnerships with the NHS, local authorities and voluntary and community organisations.

Since the Information Service launched in April 2013, we have helped thousands of people find the information they need about local NHS and care services – either through our telephone support line, online platforms, our outreach activities or our published guides of care. We are forward looking, ambitious  and  with  a  commitment  to  continuous  improvement.   We  are  a  people focused, can-do organisation, which strives for excellence in all we do and operate with mutual respect. If you share these values and behavior’s and have the necessary skills then we look  forward to hearing from you.
