Volunteering Opportunities
Parent Advisers NeededVolunteers are needed to give help advice and support to parents at children centres and schools throughout Southend. Southend Council's early years and chldhood volunteer programme gives people the opportunity to share their skills with others in the community.

Bookstart is a national scheme which aims to encourage parents to share books with children from an early age. Volunteers will be required to meet parents/ families at local heath clinics and chat about how sharing books can be fun and valuable. Working hours are flexible, during morning and afternoon sessions.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to help out at other Bookstart events; eg: baby sing-along sessions and National Bookstart Day events.
Retail Therapy. If you can spare just a few hours a week you can help fundraise for your favourite charity by being a volunteer in your local charity shop. It’s a great way to meet new people and develop new skills. You may even pick up a bargain while you’re there!
Do you have problems sleeping? Then why not volunteer for the SOS Bus on a Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday night between 9.00 pm and 3.00 am. The SOS Bus is parked in central Southend to help mostly young people who may have had too much to drink and need some assistance, either first aid, help to get home or just someone to talk to. Bus volunteers will, if necessary, go out and collect people from outside clubs. This is not a role for the faint hearted.
Please Note: A CRB check may be required for some of these roles.
