Part-Time Development Worker
20 hours per week, £10.00 per hour
Initial 1-year contract (potential to extend for further 1.75 years)
Having a baby is a life changing event. This exciting new post is to establish friendship groups that enable expectant mothers and fathers to feel supported during this critical time. You will be responsible for getting the groups off the ground and then nurturing their ongoing development working alongside our Pregnancy Pal and Birth Buddy team. The post involves extensive travelling and community development work focusing on less advantaged areas across Basildon, Thurrock and Canvey Island.
Outline of Post
This is a new post as part of our 3-year Reaching Communities project funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund. The post is for 20 hours per week (days and times to be confirmed). The initial contract will be for 1-year with possibility to extend for a further 1.75 years.
– Establishing and maintaining self-support groups for expectant/new mothers
– Assisting with the development of a new network for expectant and new fathers
– Organising and helping to deliver antenatal and postnatal workshops
– Promoting the new activities in the target communities working with stakeholders
– Helping to evaluate the usefulness of the activities with local parents
The successful applicant will have sound experience of supporting vulnerable parents with a range of diverse needs during pregnancy and post-birth; have excellent communication and organisational skills; community development skills; and be able to confidently nurture self-support groups. You will have the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Work with Parents or be willing to work towards and achieve it within 1 year of being in post (or equivalent qualification).
