Community Tie-In Event 2009
Southend Tenants & Residents Association/South Essex Homes
The Southend Tenants and Residents Federation Community Tie In Event was, as always, very well supported this year. The event was held at Garons Leisure Centre on Thursday 23rd July with representatives from many of Southend's voluntary and community sector taking part including:
- Southend Libraries
- Southend DIAL
- Citizens Advice Bureau
- Southend Credit Union
- Samaritans
and many more
The Tie-In is a great opportunity for organisations to give information and advice to visitors and find out more about how their services are being used. SAVS were represented by Chris Silvey and Edwina Mitchell with vinvolved's Dan Turpin and Louise McIver and Turning Tides Anthony Quinn and Jade DeBond also attending.
Your Life is Precious, Say No to Knives.
A DVD pushing home a hard-hitting message about not carrying knives has been produced by young people.
Teenagers from Southend Youth Council came up with the storyline, wrote the script and even acted in the film, which was launched recently. The anti-knife crime DVD is called Your Life is Precious, Say No to Knives.
Last year's Youth Mayor Erin Burrows and current youth mayor Matt Hill led the project with input from Essex Police who filmed and edited the DVD. Matt, a pupil at Westcliff High School for Boys, said: "We hope to get lots of interest from schools who will show it and get the message across to all ages."

Dare 2 Dream (D2D)
Dare 2 Dream (D2D) is a new campaign by Southend Childrens Partnership to raise aspirations of children and young people, their families and carers.
Dare 2 Dream will profile role models; children and young people whose stories can inspire others. Anyone who has overcome personal challenges to succeed in their chosen field is an ideal role model; how they have achieved is completely open it might be through sports, education, career development or travel amongst other things. However they have achieved they will serve as examples to show others what is possible and each role model will be added to a wall of fame of achievement and inspiration.
By promoting successful role models and engaging with children, young people and their families, the message will ring out loud and clear that no matter where you come from, and whatever challenges you face, you can achieve in life.
