10-year-old Southend boy swims 100 lengths to raise over £1,000 for local homeless charity HARP

A 10-year-old boy from Southend-on-Sea has raised over £1,000 (including Gift Aid) for local homeless charity HARP after completing an impressive 100-length swim in support of people experiencing homelessness this Christmas.
Inspired by seeing his grandparents support someone sleeping rough with food and drink, Ethan wanted to do something to help people experiencing homelessness in his home city.
On 7 December, Ethan dived into action at his local leisure centre, swimming 100 lengths (2.5km / over 1.5 miles) to raise funds for HARP, which supports people who are homeless across Southend-on-Sea.
Cheered on by friends’ poolside, Ethan completed the challenge in under an hour and a half, smashing his goal and raising an incredible £885, which totals over £1,000 including Gift Aid, in support of HARP’s Christmas appeal.
Ethan’s mum, Rachel, said:
“We are all utterly thrilled and proud of him, and we are so grateful for his determination, kindness and community spirit.”
HARP supports over 1,000 people each year, helping individuals move away from homelessness and rebuild their lives.
