Sainsburys Support SAVS as Their Charity of the Year

Sainsburys Local, Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff have nominated Southend Association of Voluntary Services as their charity of the year 2018/19.

There has been a hive of activity at Sainsburys Local in recent weeks; a SAVS volunteer has designed and installed an impressive promotional board to raise the profile of the charity and engage the staff in fundraising and SAVS project staff have held promotional activities in store.

Sainsburys staff also jumped on board straight away fundraising through collection tins, donating a fridge/freezer for staff and volunteers to use at SAVS, supporting SAVS project events, by donating food and volunteer thank you gifts.  Staff have expressed their interest in fundraising activities – one potential fundraiser is climbing Mount Snowden with SAVS staff in April 2019.

Peter Murphy, Store Manager said “Sainsbury’s Westcliff Hamlet Court Road Local has officially launched a partnership with, Southend Association of Voluntary Services (SAVS), its new Local Charity of the Year. We’re really excited to be working with SAVS, supporting such a fantastic cause. Everyone at Westcliff Hamlet Court Road Local are looking forward to working together for a successful partnership”.

SAVS was chosen by Sainsbury’s customers through a public vote in store and online in June. The charity will now receive a year’s worth of support by working with store colleagues on fundraising and awareness raising events.

Nicky Evans, Community Engagement Officer at SAVS said “It is fantastic to have this support from Sainsburys, it makes a huge difference to the work we carry out locally and impacts on our beneficiaries.  I am looking forward to working with staff over the next year to raise awareness of the charity and vital funds”
