ACSOS – Caretaker/Cleaner

Two Roles x 20 hours per week

Age Concern Southend-on-Sea (“ACSOS”) wishes to appoint a Caretaker/Cleaner at The Haven

Reporting to: The Centre Manager

Job Purpose:
To assist the Manager in the smooth, effective & efficient running of the Haven and all associated services. To actively promote the interests of the Haven at all times.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• To assist the Centre Manager in the supervision and day to day management and running of the Haven
• To be responsible for the Early Morning Opening and/or Evening Closing Procedures of the Haven
• To be responsible for the security of the premises ensuring that windows are closed & doors are locked at the end of the day. During the day rooms may also need to remain locked if not in use. Correct alarm procedure must be adhered to at all times
• General cleaning of the Haven
• Ensuring that Health & Safety issues are strictly adhered to
• Operation of all emergency procedures & building maintenance i.e. fire alarm, emergency lighting & heating system
• Preparation and dismantling of various functions from small meetings to large events. The post requires a lot of manual handling which will involve lifting/moving/setting up
• To inspect the interior & exterior of the building for general cleanliness on a daily basis. A weekly check must also be conducted for any defects & malfunctioning equipment. Make good any defects where appropriate or report to the Manager as soon as possible so that repairs can be arranged
• To attend training courses & complete all the appropriate Health & Safety requirements for the role
• To deal with any other matter which would facilitate the smooth running of the Haven, or as may reasonably be required by the Manager, the CEO or the Trustees

Other Related Duties:
• The post holder will also undertake such additional duties as necessary in relation to the work of the Haven

Skills and Abilities:
• Practical DIY skills to carry out minor repairs
• The ability to manage your own workload
• Good problem-solving skills
• Awareness of health, safety, security and hygiene issues
• A willingness to work flexibly

Salary etc:
• Starting Salary will be £9.05 ph
• Holiday entitlement is 20 days plus Bank Holidays
• There will be a six month probationary period, extendable at the Trustees discretion
• Relevant training will be provided and the Manager will be expected to attend both internal and external training as required
