Community Cooking Initiative – One Love Project

Published on: September 18, 2023

The One Love Project is working in partnership with Southend Adult Community College to deliver a 5-week cooking programme, designed to offer cooking sessions to learn how to prepare affordable, healthy meals, along with an understanding of basic food and hygiene whilst cooking and an understanding of different cooking utensils/equipment, when and how to use.

Location – St Marks Church, Princes Street, Southend, SS1 1QA

Course period – 1x 2-hour session per week for 5 weeks.

Time & dates:
Wednesdays, 10.30am to 12:30pm
Sept 20, Sept 27, Oct 11, Nov 1, Nov 8, Nov 15

Thursdays, 1pm to 3pm
Sept 28, Oct 12, Oct 19, Nov 9, Nov 16, Nov 23

Each week, each participant will be able to take home any food they have prepared and will receive an end of session incentive, related to food and cooking, in line with the course content to enable and encourage your cooking journey.

We can support with travel expenses (Max £5.00 per person, per week). In order to benefit from this, expenses will only be reimbursed if the expenses are handed in on the day of training along with a valid receipt.

Once the 5 week programme is complete, each participant will be offered two options;
Option 1 – To undertake a food hygiene certificate to support future career opportunities
Option 2 – To take home a slow cooker and supermarket voucher to sustain their cooking journey
