About this Funding:

Each year, SSE provides this free development learning programme with a match trading grant to support locally rooted community businesses in England to become stronger and more sustainable.

Previously known as the Community Business Trade Up Programme, the Trading for Good: Community Business Funded Programme aims to support early stage community businesses across England by helping them to develop skills to:

  • Generate income to be invested in their community through trading.
  • Create a resilient, growing community business.
  • Adapt to changes in external environments.
  • Develop emotional resourcefulness.
  • Build and benefit from new networks.
  • Positively impact their community.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be based in England.
  • Plan on starting or growing the income it makes from trading.
  • Be established within the last 1-5 years.
  • Have an income of less than £100,000 per year.

The programme runs for approximately 12 days over nine months (17 December 2024 to 1 August 2025) and combines six online sessions and six in-person days (Birmingham, London, or Manchester).

Organisations accepted onto the programme will receive a match trading grant of up to £4,000. The first £800 will be awarded up front. The remaining four instalments of up to £800 will be given over the year matched against the participant’s increased trading.

An online information session will be held on 17 July (3pm – 4pm). Registration is required.

Applications are now open with a deadline of 12 noon on 24 July 2024.
