Salary £26,317 rising incrementally to £29,636
Location: Southend-on-Sea
Contract type: Permanent 37 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm

HARP is a Southend-on-Sea charity working to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. Each day our staff work with individuals to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness, such as poor mental health or drug and alcohol dependency. From supporting people in crisis to helping them take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to over 1,000 lives every year.

HARP is currently recruiting for a Facilities Management Assistant to join our property team.

The property team maintains and continuously upgrades the charities facilities and stock. The team successfully works in conjunction with the operations team and has very strong and close links with a number of the charities teams. This ensures efficient and effective facilities management and building up keep.

Reporting into the Property Manager, the post holder will:

Assist the Property Manager in providing a high level of planned and reactive maintenance to all of HARP’s Property Portfolio. To actively promote good quality work & repairs. Maintain and constantly improve our stock where ever possible. Working within the Property development team to ensure we meet all legal, industry and recommended standards and to constantly update and improve the service we provide to HARP and its wide and varied Service users and stake holders. To promote and ensure a safe working and living environment for all within the complete portfolio of HARP run buildings.

To work alongside the Operations and Service Managers including the team at The Bradbury Centre in York Road and other HARP sites to maintain a high standard of maintenance and repairs to ensure our wide and extensive portfolio of properties are safe and in good condition

To manage and supervise as necessary our Contractors, outside bodies, direct staff and volunteers engaged in repairs. Plus to ensure where necessary risk assessments, and method statements are issued to all operatives by the contractors or directly by HARP.

To play an proactive role in the management of our buildings and how service users, Staff and visitors make use of the building and there many facilities

The ideal candidate will be / possess:

• A multi-trader is required with a competent level of experience in all aspects of the building trade including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry and general building.

• Writing skills – Able to produce reports and the ability to write clear instructions & purchase orders

• IT skills at a level that supports report writing, email, internet and database. Clear communication skills face to face and on the phone or email

• Time management and organisational skills including the management of others

• Self-motivated with the confidence to work alone but can also work co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team.

• Ability to stay focused and efficient in the face on changing priorities.

• Ability to remain calm in a crisis and deal with all incidents in a professional manner

• Full current UK driving license and access to a car will be essential
