HARP24 the ultimate endurance race – 6/7 July 2024

Published on: February 12, 2024

Looking for a running challenge with friends and family this year? HARP24 may be the answer!

Now in its 11th year, HARP24 is a 24-hour endurance race aimed at both serious runners and fun runners to take part in. The event takes place at Cherry Orchard Country Park, near Southend-on-Sea on the weekend of 6/7 July 2024.

Participants can enter as a solo runner or with a relay team of up to 12 family members or friends. The aim of the event is to complete as many laps of the scenic five-mile course as possible between midday on Saturday 6th July and midday on Sunday 7th July. There are solo and team awards in a number of categories.

Entry is only £64, which includes a free vest and camping for two nights (Friday and Saturday). On top of this HARP ask runners to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.

Lisa Walton, Community Fundraiser at HARP said: “HARP24 is a great challenge event for everyone. Each year we have a mixture of serious solo runners and groups of friends and family who enjoy running together; all seeking a challenge while enjoying camping at the beautiful Cherry Orchard Park and raising money for this worthy cause.”

Ellie Kimber of Leigh-on-Sea Striders Running Club, who has been taking part in and supporting the event for 10 years, said: “HARP24 is definitely a highlight of our club calendar. The course is flat, which is ideal for this type of event and friends and families support the runners during the event, making it feel like an inclusive, supportive, community event for everyone.”

This year on Saturday afternoon HARP is running an under-18s running challenge. HARP 2.4 is a 3.8 km run which runs alongside the main HARP24 event. This costs just £15 to enter and everyone taking part will receive a medal and vest.

The event is generously sponsored by local companies Ipeco and Stibbards meaning every penny raised from the event funds the life-changing work of HARP who support around 1,000 local people experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home every year.
