Break The Cycle CYPVA (Children and Young People’s Domestic Violence Advisor)

Following on from a three-year project delivering prevention and awareness workshops in schools as well as 1:1 support for 13-19yrs, we have been awarded an additional grant by the Big Lottery to continue the support for young people affected by domestic abuse. Southend based Safe Steps is delighted to recruit additional staff to its Break The Cycle team for children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

The Break The Cycle team work within the community, schools, youth organisations, and other agencies to deliver a proactive programme focussing on the prevention of abuse and the promotion of positive relationships, within families and interpersonal relationships. This role will include managing a 1:1 caseload of diverse risk and the development of a young people’s champions programme in conjunction with the wider BTC team and to ensure that the wishes and feelings of CYP contribute to the development of this service.

Relevant experience of working with children and young people is essential as is a knowledge of the domestic abuse sector. In addition, the ability to engage with young people through a range of media and to advocate the benefits of healthy relationships is key.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who have already achieved an IDVA accreditation, with a willingness to gain a YPVA Diploma. Safe Steps is committed to staff training and development and with that in mind, is also prepared to consider applications from those candidates with the necessary experience of casework with victims of domestic violence who are willing to undertake an IDVA accreditation (OCN level 3) and then to go onto achieving the expert level YPVA course.

Salary: Further information upon request, but subject to qualifications / accreditations achieved and relevant experience – £21,000 – £23,000
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Annual leave: Commencing at 25 days per annum
