Safe Steps – CYP Domestic Abuse Advisor

Safe Steps – CYP Domestic Abuse Advisor

Having been awarded an additional grant by the Big Lottery for preventative services in the local community, Southend based Safe Steps is delighted to recruit additional staff to its services for children and young people who are affected by domestic abuse.

Experienced in the domestic violence sector and working with young people, the ideal candidate will need to be highly motivated and committed to making a difference to the safety and promotion of healthy relationships to children and young people.

In addition, this new team will work within the community, with schools, youth organisations, and other agencies to deliver a proactive programme focussing on the prevention of abuse and the promotion of positive relationships, within families and interpersonal relationships, particularly important for teenagers. Also, to develop a young people’s champions programme in conjunction with the wider BTC team and to ensure that the wishes and feelings of CYP contribute to the development of this service.

Relevant experience of working with children and young people is essential as is a knowledge of the domestic abuse sector. In addition, the ability to engage with young people through a range of media and to advocate the benefits of healthy relationships is key.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who have already achieved an IDVA accreditation, with a willingness to gain a YPVA Diploma. Safe Steps is committed to staff training and development and with that in mind, is also prepared to consider applications from those candidates with the necessary experience of casework with victims of domestic violence who are willing to undertake an IDVA accreditation (OCN level 3) and then to go onto achieving the expert level YPVA course.
