Grants of up to £5,000 Essex & Suffolk Water Community Fund (Closing date 8th November 2019)
The Essex & Suffolk Water Community Fund, which awards grants of up to £5,000 to charitable projects that are related to either wellbeing, community support or the environment, is inviting applications for funding again this year.
ECF is an independent charitable trust dedicated to improving the quality of life of people in Essex by investing and distributing funds on behalf of a wide range of donors.

Grants of up to £5,000 Available for Local Community Projects (Closing date 11th November 2019)
The Charities Aid Foundation has announced that the Tourle Foundation Fund is open for applications. The CAF Tourle Foundation Fund seeks to award grants of up to £5,000 to local charitable organisations delivering services for local people within the UK. An example would be a charitable organisation set up by the community in a village, providing services to older people in isolation; a small community group on an estate providing drop in sessions for teenagers etc. To be eligible to apply, organisations must be able to evidence that the project will be delivered to local people and have an annual income of below £75,000. Priority will be given to organisations that find it difficult to attract mainstream funding. The closing date for applications is midnight on the 11th November 2019.
Grants of up to £1,000 Available for Projects that Improve the Wellbeing of Children (Closing date 18th November 2019)
Grants of up to £1,000 are available to registered charities and non-profit organisations who work to improve the education and physical and emotional wellbeing of children.
Applicants applying for funding may focus on one or more of these areas:
• Living in Poverty
• Physical & Mental Health Problems
• Health & Wellbeing
• Living with Disability
The next closing date for applications is 5pm on the 18th November 2019.
Veolia Environmental Trust Grants (Closing date 28th November 2019)
The next closing date for stage 1 applications to the Veolia Environmental Trust is the 28th November 2019.
Grants of between £10,000 and £75,000 are available to constituted not for profit organisations and registered Environmental Bodies towards:
• Community buildings
• Parks and paths, play, Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs) and recreational facilities
• Nature reserves
• Biodiversity projects.
To be eligible to apply, the applicant organisation needs to be within the vicinity of a qualifying Veolia site (please see post code checker below); the projects must have a total cost of under £250,000 (including VAT and professional costs); the applicant must have secured 20% of funding towards the project prior to submitting a full (stage 2) application.
Funding Available to Museums and Galleries to Sustain their Collections (Closing date 29th November 2019)
The John Ellerman Foundation has announced that £500,000 of funding is now available to regional museums and galleries in the UK to enhance and sustain curatorial development and enable them to attract a broader public. Five or six grants will be available for periods of two or three years with the average grant expected to be in the region of £87,000.
The Fund is open to a wide variety of collection types including visual and decorative arts, archaeology and social and natural history collections.
The Museums and Galleries Fund aims to enable new ways of working for established curators and those just starting out or to ensure that organisations are able to safeguard and advance curatorial skills through a time of development or change. Preference will be given to organisations with an income between £100,000 and £10million.
Local authority, independent museums and contemporary galleries without permanent collections are also eligible to apply. While priority is given to small to medium-sized museums and galleries outside of London, national and/or London-based institutions may also apply if their project brings significant benefits in the regions.
There is a two-stage application process and the closing date for stage one applications is the 29th November 2019.
Grants Available to Small Charities and Community Groups for Projects that Increase Physical Activities (Closing date 30th November 2019)
Localgiving has once again partnered with the Postcode Community Trust to offer grants of £500 to small charities and community groups across the UK through its Magic Little Grants Fund.
Grants will be awarded to projects that meet either of the following themes:
Overcoming barriers to participation in physical activities in creative ways
Increasing social cohesion through developing access to sports and other recreational activities
Grants can be used to support the general running costs of new and existing sports and physical activities. For example, this could include:

Other volunteer expenses
The fund is open to Localgiving registered charitable organisations operating within Great Britain (excluding Northern Ireland) that are running or planning to run a project that will encourage people to engage in some form of physical activity to help to improve their physical and mental health and well-being.
Organisations that are not already a member of Localgiving are required to complete the Localgiving registration process before completing the application. Those awarded a grant will also receive an annual Local Giving membership worth £96.
The following criteria apply::
Organisations must either be in their first year of operation or have an annual income under £250,000.
Preference will be given to projects that encourage social cohesion and help vulnerable people to overcome barriers to participation in physical activities.
Funding can be used to launch new projects, support existing ones, or cover core costs associated with ongoing work
The application process is open until the 30th November 2019.
Childs Charitable Trust (Closing date 30th November 2019)
The Childs Charitable Trust is a grant-making trust, supporting Christian UK registered and excepted charities and organisations both in the UK and overseas. During 2017 the Trust awarded grants to 81 different organisations all based in the UK but operating in more than 100 different countries worldwide.
Projects will be considered that fall into the following categories:
• Youth – the trust looks to support projects working in schools and with vulnerable and disengaged young people in the UK. Supported activities may include RE Lessons; School Assemblies; Lunchtime/After school clubs; Evangelism; Personal Development Programmes; Homelessness Prevention.
• Outreach – the trust works to share the gospel of Christ by supporting all aspects of Christian outreach both in the UK and overseas and can fund, for example, Church Plants; Overseas Mission; Training in Evangelism; Chaplaincy.
• Society – the trust believes people of faith bring a valuable contribution to social action and justice and support initiatives that have a positive impact in their society. Grants could support, for example: Counselling; night shelters; alcohol/drug rehabilitation; homelessness; or prison/ex-offenders work.
• Education – the trust supports initiatives involved in all areas of Christian education including Bible Translation; Media Initiatives; Bible Colleges; Literature; Apologetics.
Applicants must be registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charity Commission of Northern Ireland or be ‘excepted’ charities. Organisations with a turnover in excess of £5,000,000 should contact the office prior to submitting an application, to check eligibility.
No minimum or maximum funding amounts are specified, however in 2017, 16 grants of between £5,000 and £9,999, 18 grants of between £3,000 and £4,999 and 34 grants not exceeding £2,999 were made. Nine other grants ranging from £12,000 to £34,000 were also awarded.
The deadline for applications is the 30th November 2019.
High Sheriff Fund (Essex – Closing date 2nd December 2019)
Voluntary and community organisations in Essex can now apply for grants of up to £5,000 for community initiatives that address crime, community safety and anti-social behaviour. The funding has been made available from the High Sheriff’s Fund which is being managed by the Essex Community Foundation.
Projects that have received funding previously include a personal safety scheme for older people, educating young people about the dangers of carrying a knife and a project to deter drug and alcohol abuse.
The closing date for applications is the 2nd December 2019.
£1 Million Available to Help Rough Sleepers this Winter (Closing date 6th December 2019)
Grants of up to £25,000 are available to frontline organisations to help end rough sleeping and to provide longer term solutions for people that are sleeping rough. Grants are available to provide additional accommodation during the period 1st December 2019 to the 31st March 2020 and / or to enhance the support provided in existing commissioned shelters to help rough sleepers secure a long-term move-on from shelters. This could include applications for training and workforce development or similar activities that enhance the quality of support provided in shelters. The funding is being made available through the £1 million Cold Weather Fund and is available to charitable organisations that are currently not commissioned by local authorities. The closing date for applications is the 6th December 2019.
Grants of up to £5,000 Available for Projects that Help the Homeless (Closing date 15th December 2019)
Help the Homeless makes grants of up to £5,000 to small and medium sized charitable organisations (with a turnover of less than £1 million) whose aim is to help homeless people return to the community and enabling them to resume a normal life.
Typically, such organisations may operate small or medium-sized residential or training facilities to assist homeless people.
The grants are available for capital costs.
The closing date for the next round of funding is the 15th December 2019.
New Funding Available to Create Pocket Parks and Revive Neglected Green Spaces (Closing date 31st December 2019)
A new £1.35 million fund has been launched to help local communities in England create new pocket parks or to revive rundown green spaces in their area. Community groups can now bid grants of up to £15,000 for new pocket parks and up to £25,000 to renovate existing parks which have fallen into disrepair, bringing them back into public use. Pocket Parks can be in a housing estate, adjacent to a canal, in a high street, in the ground of a local community facility such as a library or community centre, etc. Applications can be made by community groups working in partnership with their local authority. The funding is being made available through the Pocket Parks Plus programme and the closing date for applications is 5pm on the 31st December 2019.
Funding for Community Gardens (Closing date 31st December 2019)
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to community groups in England and Wales to create a garden or similar project (such as an allotment) with a horticultural focus for the benefit of their local community.
These projects should aim to bring a community together by being a space people can share, by the acquisition and sharing of gardening knowledge and skills and by inspiring a love of gardening.
Funding could cover, for example site preparation (including hire of small mechanical tools such as rotavators), hand tools, plants, trees, shrubs, containers and seating.
The funding is being made available through the National Garden Scheme Community Gardens Award and the closing date for applications is the 31st December 2019.
Funding for Football Equipment and Facilities (England & Wales)
Grants of up to £10,000 are available to schools, grass roots football clubs, local authorities and professional and semi-professional football clubs and their associated community organisations that are looking to refurbish their existing or develop new football facilities.
The funding is available through the Football Foundation’s Premier League & the FA Facilities Fund Small Grants Scheme and can be used to buy capital items such as portable floodlights, storage containers and other equipment; or to refurbish/improve existing facilities. The aims of this scheme are to:
• Support the growth of football clubs and activity
• Prevent a decline in football participation
• Make improvements to facilities to address any health and safety issues.
The grants awarded cannot exceed 50% of the total project cost. The Football Foundation strongly recommend that applicants use the pre-application advice offered on our behalf by The FA and the network of County FAs around England. This will normally involve completing the FA’s Football Facilities Enquiry Form (FEF) first, which will help The FA to learn more about a project and determine the best way to support the applicant organisation.
Applications can be submitted at any time.
Equipment Grants for Youth Clubs (UK)
Variety, the Childrens Charity, has grants of £250 to £600 available to youth organisations that are affiliated to either Ambition, UK Youth or the or National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs. The grants can be used to buy equipment to provide challenging activities that engage young people aged 8-18 and provide them with alternatives to becoming involved in the anti-social behaviour that often stems from boredom and peer pressure.
On occasion, applications for improvement of youth club premises, refurbishment of existing equipment or facilities will also be considered.
Applicants have to raise some of the funds and applications that have young people involved in the fund raising will be looked upon favourably.
There are no deadlines when applying and applications can be made at any time.
