HARP is a Southend-on-Sea charity working to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. Each day our staff work with individuals to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness, such as poor mental health or drug and alcohol dependency. From supporting people in crisis to helping them take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to 1200 lives every year.
This opportunity is at White Heather House, which provides both medium and short term accommodation to women affected by homelessness. The service operates a model of personalised support in order to address a wide range of presenting needs. Those we support are often affected by substance misuse, unemployment, physical health and mental health issues. Whatever their story, we aim for the same ending; self-esteem, employability and independent living. The team work with service users to address their support needs in a holistic way, with a view to supporting them into independent housing in the community when they are ready to do so.
This role is a Monday, Tuesday and Saturday post and may include an element of lone working.
Job Title: Women’s Hostel Support Worker
Salary: Point 14 – 17 starting at £16,781 pro rata rising incrementally to £17,772 pro rata p.a.
Permanent, 13 hours per week
To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate the ability to work within a highly effective, person centred accommodation service for service users with multiple and complex needs that include substance use and mental health. This experience must include the holistic assessment of need, support and risk, and multi-agency casework planning.
Organised, adaptable, and an excellent communicator, you will be enthusiastic about working in a psychologically informed environment, and creative in your approach to service delivery. You are resilient in, and motivated by, a constantly changing and busy environment. A good understanding of the regulatory and financial environment within which accommodation based support operates is essential.
We are happy to consider applicants without experience in this field that can demonstrate empathy and an enthusiasm for the role.

Our starting benefits package includes 25 days annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, a contributory pension scheme through The People’s Pension. HARP will make a contribution to the pension and you will also be required to make a contribution.
