The vision of SOS Rape Crisis is to relieve the trauma and distress of survivors, their families, and friends, who have experienced any form of sexual violence, in particular, but not exclusively through the support and promotion of Rape Crisis Centres. Part of the Synergy Essex Rape Crisis Partnership.

Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) play an important role in providing specialist tailored support to victims and survivors of sexual violence. An ISVA is an advisor who works with people who have experienced rape and sexual assault, irrespective of whether they have reported it to the police. The nature of the support that an ISVA provides will vary from case to case, and will depend on the needs of the individual and their circumstances.

The ISVA role has been supported by a range of agencies: organisations and victim survivor groups, all of whom have highlighted the value of the role.

ISVA’s provide impartial information to the victim/survivor about all their options, such as reporting to the police, accessing Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) services, and specialist support such as pre trial therapy and sexual violence counselling.
