Liberty Ladies Raise Money for Local Charities HARP and Carers First Southend.

Published on: May 8, 2024

Jealous of all the fun their children were having at Liberty Performing Arts, the mums got together with teacher Emma to create their own dance troupe. Six months on, not content with restricting their moves to the dance studio, they’ve have decided to hijack the Liberty dance show to raise money for charity. For one afternoon only, on 15 June, audiences will be treated to an 80s Movie Dance Medley featuring hits from all time classics such as Flashdance, Fame and Dirty Dancing.

Emma Wright, ex-professional dancer and founder of Liberty Performing Arts says:

“When some of the dance mums expressed an interest in starting their own group, I was all in! Being a mum myself, I know the importance of finding time for yourself, where you can socialise, keep fit and generally let your hair down… so Liberty Ladies was born… And what a group it is has become! We come from all walks of life. Some have dance experience, some don’t (well, they do now!) but what we all have in common is, we like a good laugh. I can honestly say that teaching this group of ladies is such a joy, I don’t think I could even describe our weekly classes as work. We really have created something special and to do it all for two amazing, local charities makes it even more meaningful and worthwhile.”

Interested in joining? The group meet at West Leigh Baptist Church, in the heart of Leigh-on-sea on a Wednesday night. If you’d like to support them and make their ‘blushes’ worthwhile come along to the dance show or sponsor them on Justgiving (search Liberty Ladies).

All money raise with go towards running HARP’s Bradbury day centre for street homeless and providing support to unpaid carers for Carers First in Southend.
