New Greenhouse Will Benefit Over 55’s Club Members

Published on: February 22, 2024

SAVS ‘Folk Like Us’ Project are thrilled to learn that we are eligible for Veolia’s Sustainability Fund in the amount of £700.

‘Folk Like Us’ is a free service, providing support and advice to people over the age of 55, living in the city of Southend who are experiencing loneliness and isolation. Services provided by this project include regular meet up opportunities and engaging activities in our hubs, connect events, home visits and digital support programmes.

We also hold an allotment plot at Norwich Avenue Allotments which our members regularly attend and maintain with the help of SAVS staff.

Veolia’s Sustainability Fund will help us to purchase a greenhouse for the plot, meaning we can get an early start planting seedlings and increase our crops of fruit and veggies.

Rachel Rooks, Supported Volunteering Manager at SAVS said, “We are incredibly grateful for this funding which will help enrich the wellbeing of our members. The allotment plot has become a mainstay of the ‘Folk Like Us’ Project and a new greenhouse will substantially improve our efforts.”
