We are a small voluntary organisation under HMRC small organisations that primarily delivers whole blood but is also asked to carry emergency plasma, medication or medical samples to hospital departments and patients across Essex and Greater London.
Essex Voluntary Blood Service operates with volunteer riders and drivers giving not only their time but with no remuneration from the EVBS small voluntary organisation, all members are responsible for their own costs in delivering this essential work.
Due to COVID-19 the normal free of charge service to the NHS was expanded to operate 24/7 with the volunteer administration staff on rota duty to handle all calls without delay ensuring a prompt response and immediate tasking.
Most of the blood is collected first from the Basildon Blood Bank then within an allocated timeframe is delivered to one of the hospitals listed on the right.
The EVBS organisation has liveried motorcycles and cars which if requested by the hospital can operate on a restricted blue light service. This emergency service is not permitted to be undertaken on any vehicle privately registered with the DVLA.
