At Kingsdown School, we value each child as an individual with differing skills, talents and needs. We endeavour to provide a supportive environment which allows each pupil to grow towards their full potential. We work closely with our multi-agency partners to create a school which is happy, safe, caring and positive.
In September 2017, Kingsdown School along with the three other special schools in Southend City (The St. Christopher School, Lancaster School and St. Nicholas School) formed a Multi Academy Trust, the SEN Trust Southend City. This enables us to share expertise, resources and training across the schools whilst maintaining the individual ethos, status and character of each school.
Our Mission Statement is “Be happy, communicate, learn and achieve”. At Kingsdown, we believe that all pupils are entitled to the best educational experiences possible. We are committed to providing our pupils with high quality learning opportunities which help develop a sense of self with high aspiration and expectation. By working collaboratively with families and a range of professionals, we provide a nurturing environment for our pupils to enable them to feel safe and thereby allowing them the dignity of challenge.
Pupils’ communication is pivotal and a wide variety of methods are used to facilitate this, which include Makaton signing, objects of reference, photographs and symbols and various communication aids.
We have a wealth of initiatives to support pupils’ learning including a choir, orchestra, dance, music therapy and after school clubs.
