South Essex Homes was formed in 2005.

As the Arm’s Length Management Organisation for Southend City Council, our initial aims were to provide a high quality housing service and deliver a large programme of major improvements to tenants’ homes.

We have now improved the vast majority of council housing in Southend so that it meets the Decent Homes Standard. Over time, South Essex Homes has evolved. We have worked hard to improve our services, increase satisfaction and residents are very much at the heart of our business.

Sheltered Housing

Our sheltered accommodation schemes consist of complexes of one-bedroom flats and studio flats across the city of Southend, and are usually occupied by people aged 60 and over.

These schemes are managed and maintained by South Essex Homes on behalf of Southend-on-Sea City Council.

Temporary Accommodation

South Essex Homes manages ten temporary accommodation buildings (also known as hostels) in the City of Southend with a total number of 91 available rooms. There are also 8 additional rooms available to provide refuge to people fleeing abusive relationships.

Places in temporary accommodation are allocated following referral from Southend City Council, CM16+ and YOS, for a range of reasons including homelessness, mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, rough sleeping, youth offending, and young people leaving care.
