Local volunteer led-groups, social enterprises, and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants of up to £3,500 to deliver cycling events to get people back on their bikes this summer.

The Big Bike Revival Programme will support organisations across England to deliver a summer programme of activity that will encourage people who do not currently cycle to consider either starting or returning to cycling.

This includes people experiencing:

• social, economic and health deprivation
• people from diverse backgrounds
• those facing complex challenges

The programme supports three types of events:

• Fix Events – offers basic services to repair cycles and provides essential checks to ensure cycles are safe to ride
• Learn Events – offers instruction, training or skills for adults to learn to maintain or repair their cycle or learn cycle skills to help them feel safer when cycling
• Ride Events – offers led rides for adults to practise cycling locally

The funding, which is made available by the Department for Transport, can be spent on anything that supports the delivery of events such as staffing, promotional costs, equipment, consumables and volunteer transport.

The closing date for applications is 1 June 2026.

Previous projects funded include:

• Resurrection Bikes (Harrogate, North Yorkshire)
  Resurrection Bikes used Big Bike Revival funding to run events like maintenance workshops and led rides. The project supported community groups, including refugees and prison participants, by providing refurbished bikes. Proceeds from over 3,000 bikes sold were donated to charity, enhancing cycling access and inclusion.

• Wheels 4 Fun (Leeds)
  Wheels 4 Fun received funding to offer inclusive cycling sessions using adaptive bikes for people with disabilities and health conditions. The project hosted weekly rides and special events, helping participants build confidence and independence. It supported stroke survivors and individuals with neurological conditions in safely enjoying cycling.

• Wellingborough District Hindu Association (Northamptonshire)
  Supported by Northamptonshire Sport, this group delivered four ‘Learn to Fix’ sessions and three ‘Dr Bike’ maintenance events. These sessions provided essential bike repairs and maintenance training, particularly benefiting residents from Castle Ward and BAME backgrounds, encouraging them to return to cycling post-pandemic.
