Community Builder Good News Story – Prittle Brook Community Litter-pick
Published on: August 3, 2026
Chiquitta, our Community Builder had the chance to join the Prittle Brook Community Group on one of their litter picks. Recently, she was pleasantly surprised to see the lady who originally started the group back in 2009 was there with them. She explained that when she first set it up, her hope was that it would grow into a long-lasting community effort, and it’s fair to say this has been achieved!
The group now hosts two sessions every month, covering different areas along the brook. They not only tidy up the area but also report on fly-tipping incidents and keep an eye on general maintenance to ensure the space remains clean and welcoming. It’s a real community effort that benefits everyone who enjoys the brook, whether they’re cyclists, runners, dog walkers, or those fancying a more scenic walk.
The founder, Sharon led the group for its first five years before moving away from. Before she left, she made the wise decision to hand it over to Meg and Ken, who has continued to lead the group with the same enthusiasm and commitment ever since.
Seventeen years after it all began, the Prittle Brook Community Group is still going strong. It’s a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local people come together to care for the places they love, and everyone involved deserves enormous credit for keeping this fantastic community initiative thriving.
The next two sessions will be 5th & 22nd August- to get involved please email for more information: megdavidson2017@outlook.com
