Connecting Social Value with Communities

What is Social Value?

Social Value is the positive impact an organisation has on society beyond company profits and bottom lines. While profit is tracked in traditional accounting terms, Social Value is measured by the actions an organisation takes to improve the world around it.

Let’s imagine a charity that supports reducing social isolation in the over 55s. Through their work, the charity are statistically likely improve the outcomes for their service users. They may be less likely to need to use the NHS, have better engagement with the local economy, be more active and engaged with their community and be less likely to need to claim a benefit.

By supporting local charity, calculations can be used to generate an estimated pounds and pence measure of the impact a business has had on the community they work in.

The action you decide to take to support a local charity can take many forms and here at SAVS, we’re happy to consult with you to help you find what works best for your organisation.

Bespoke Project Design

Our 10 Ways of Working offer a strong starting point for developing a Social Value project. Success Stories

Beauleigh Court Care and Residential Home

We are a care home providing residential and dementia care, with a focus on supporting residents to live well, maintain their independence and stay connected to the local community.

Through our collaboration with SAVS, we were able to support a fundraiser for Folk Like Us, a local charity project that helps older people feel more connected, supported and less isolated.

Being an active part of the Southend community is very important to us. SAVS helped us identify a meaningful local cause that aligned with our values and gave our residents, staff, families and wider community the opportunity to get involved in something positive. We really enjoyed raising awareness for Folk Like Us, and our residents had a brilliant time taking part in the activities.

The collaboration helped us strengthen our links with the local community, raise awareness of an important local service and demonstrate our commitment to delivering Social Value in a practical and meaningful way. It also gave more people the chance to learn about the care, support and community connection we provide through our home.

We’ve had the opportunity and privilege to deliver several Lunchinars through SAVS, giving us the chance to share our knowledge and experience with local charities and community organisations. These sessions have allowed us to make IT feel more accessible, practical and less daunting for organisations that may not always have access to specialist support.

Working with SAVS has helped us connect with people and organisations we may not have reached otherwise. It has also given us a better understanding of the challenges local charities face, from limited capacity and resources to the need for simple, reliable digital solutions. Through this relationship, we’ve been able to explore ways we can offer support that is genuinely useful and relevant to the sector.

The SAVS Weekly Wrap-Up has also been a valuable way to stay connected with what is happening across the Southend community, helping us understand local priorities, opportunities and the wider work taking place across the VCFSE sector.

At our core, we want to make a real difference in the communities we support. For us, Social Value means going beyond providing IT services and using our skills to help organisations feel more confident, capable and resilient. Working with SAVS has helped us do that by creating opportunities to build relationships, share knowledge and support the community in a meaningful way.
