Following on from the recent workshop on Strengths-based Working, ABSS is hosting a free workshop looking at looking at Compassion-Led Practice: Re-thinking ACES and Trauma-informed Practice. This promises to be a fascinating and lively workshop that will explore how people’s previous experiences, particularly those in early childhood, shape their responses later in life, and how we can work with this when engaging with children and adults.
Building on evidence from neuroscience and experience of transformational programmes promoting secure attachment, Sally Poskett from Knowledge Change Action Ltd will explore what is meant by ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and why thinking about PACES (Protective and Compensatory Experiences) may be helpful for working with children and families in strengths-based and compassion-led ways. She will be joined by ABSS Research Officer Mikki Barrett, who will share her experiences of working in a trauma-informed way with children, adolescents and adults in local education, mental health and addition recovery programmes. There will also be plenty of opportunities for attendees to share their own ideas and experiences around trauma-informed practice.
The event will be at Twenty One, Pier Approach, Southend on Wed 15th May, 1-3pm. It’s free and open to anyone working or volunteering with children aged 0-4 or their families in Southend. To book a place, please email ABSSResearch@eyalliance.org.uk
