SAVS Community Builder Supports Youth Engagement This Summer

Published on: September 3, 2025

This Summer half term has been a rewarding one for SAVS Community Builder, Chiquitta Bruce, who has been actively supporting a range of Holiday Activities & Food (HAF) sessions across the city.

Throughout the weeks, Chiquitta has had the chance to build genuine relationships with young people from different neighbourhoods, engaging them in meaningful conversations about their communities — what they love, what they’d like to change, and how they feel about where they live.

The HAF sessions offer young people a range of opportunities. From learning new skills and trying new activities, to building confidence, teamwork, and a sense of achievement.

Many are developing social skills, forming new friendships, and discovering strengths they didn’t know they had.

Chiquitta comments,

“It’s been inspiring to witness and be a part of the sometimes small but significant moments that can shape a young person’s sense of self and future direction.”

These experiences are not only strengthening Chiquitta’s connection with local communities, but also helping ensure that the voices of young people are heard, valued, and supported.
