About this Funding:
Historic England is making funding available to help young people living in deprived areas of England to explore and celebrate untold local histories.
The History in the Making programme will enable underrepresented young people (aged 13 to 25) to research, discover and commemorate local histories. Each funded project will create a place marker to celebrate and share these stories with the community.
Place markers could be:
- an installation or artwork in, and of, itself, e.g. a mural, a sculpture, a community bench, or
- an engaging panel or plaque that triggers other content via links or QR codes, e.g. audio tours, videos or other creative responses
The programme expects to fund around 25 youth-led projects of between £10,000 and £15,000.
Applications will be accepted from organisations of all types, including charities, community interest groups, and local authorities. Individuals can apply if they are registered as sole traders.
The closing date for applications is 24 July 2026.
