About this Funding:
Fowler Smith & Jones Charitable Trust is an Essex based funder that supports a range of projects and organisations throughout Essex.
The Trustees meet three times a year, February, May and September. Applications close approx. 4-6 weeks before.
The deadline for their February meeting is 8th January 2027. Average grants are £2,000 – £3,000.
Applications are divided into the following categories:
- Arts & Culture
- Churches & Faith Communities
- Community
- Medical & Health
- Miscellaneous
- Youth
The Trust does not fund:
- Individuals or personal equipment
- Political or Religious activities
- Festivals
- Animal charities
- Commercial ventures
- Parish Councils
Direct replacement of statutory funding or activities that are primarily the responsibility of local or central government are not considered to be qualifying areas for awards by the Trustees. The Trust provides grants to institutions, CIO, CIC and not for profit organisations who benefit the people and communities in Essex. It is noted that the recipients themselves are thus regulated to ensure they operate for the public benefit.
Application Process:-
- Send a concise email (no more than 2 pages) stating brief background information
- Outline Project or core costs, amount requested and budget costings
- Describe who will benefit, how many, their age group and area/location
- Staffing and volunteers
- Commencement date if applicable
- Fundraising & other grant applications
- Email latest audited accounts, confirm 2 unrelated signatories & bank details
Should your application be successful, an impact report should be sent to the Trust within 12 months of receiving the Award.
