Southend firm raises over £10,000 in charity sleepout for homelessness

A Southend-based business has raised more than £10,000 for local homelessness charity HARP following a community sleepout event (on Friday 10 April) aimed at raising awareness of rough sleeping.

Liberty Hygiene Ltd hosted its third bi-annual sleepout at its headquarters, bringing together staff, clients, suppliers and local supporters for a night outdoors in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness.

With the addition of government Gift Aid, the total raised has exceeded £10,000. Across the three events, held every two years, the company has now raised more than £36,000 for charity.

More than 50 people gathered at the company’s HQ to show their support and wish participants well as they prepared to sleep outside. During the evening, attendees heard from the charity and individuals with lived experience of homelessness, sharing powerful stories about the realities of rough sleeping and the journey towards recovery.

Despite the serious cause, the event also brought the community together, with a barbecue, live music and campfires creating a supportive and positive atmosphere.

Scott Marshall, CEO Liberty Hygiene Ltd said: “We’re incredibly proud to see our community come together – from friends and family to clients and suppliers – all united behind such an important cause. Not only did we raise vital funds, but we also helped shine a light on the reality of rough sleeping in the UK.”

HARP provides vital services to people experiencing homelessness across South Essex, offering accommodation, support and pathways to independence.
