Published on: August 5, 2024

SAVS Supported Volunteering Project partnered with Southend Museum’s health and wellbeing team to offer supported volunteers the opportunity to learn more about local history and how it has shaped Southend today.

Rachel Rooks, Supported Volunteering Manager, said:

“Our host, Vera, made us feel so welcome and brought lots of positive energy to the trip – educating us on historical characters, touring stunning landmarks and tales of local legends. The workshops, held at 4 different locations, encouraged curious chats, helped build confidence and gave us the space to get create with craft related activities.”

The Supported Volunteering Project, funded by Big Lottery Community Fund, supports people who may have experienced mental ill health into volunteering.

Alongside helping people find volunteer roles, the Supported Volunteering Project workshops help improve confidence, reduce isolation and encourage social connections.
