Volunteers Revamp Railway Gardens

Good News Story from Community Builder, Eda Deramchia
Rhona and Martin, part of the Shoeburyness Residents Events Team, are two truly inspiring people. They organise a Christmas market at the Shoeburyness and Thorpe Bay Baptist Church every year. Last year, C2C kindly sponsored their grotto, which enabled them to raise more money for the Neptune Children’s Ward — an amazing achievement.
Wanting to give something back, Rhona and Martin came up with the idea of revamping the railway gardens for residents at Shoeburyness Railway Station, with help from their friends Julia and Tom. Julia and Tom donated a rowing boat, which Martin has beautifully decorated and displayed at the station.
Overgrown and in need of a makeover, the tangled plants and shrubs were crying out for attention. After months of hard work, the gardens now look beautiful and offer a warm welcome to everyone arriving in Shoebury. Many residents have shown their support and shared positive feedback.
The Children’s Fun Club from St Andrew’s Church and The Shoebury Dippers of East Beach found, cleaned, and painted beach stones that now complement the gardens beautifully. Several residents have also generously donated plants. This effort highlights how community groups and individuals can come together to create something truly special.
The transformation has been incredible, and both Shoebury residents and commuters love the new, green, and colourful area at Shoebury Train Station.
Thank you, Rhona and Martin, for your remarkable work and for being such inspiring role models for the Shoebury community — and thank you to everyone who contributed and supported them!
