Community Builder Good News Story: New Bus Route
Published on: October 27, 2026
Chiquitta, our Community Builder shared the following about the launch of a new bus route in Southend.
I think the launch of the new 62A and 62B bus services in Southend is a really positive step for our local community. I had the pleasure of riding the bus ahead of its official launch, which was a lovely opportunity to experience the new service first-hand and see how it could benefit local residents.
Launched on 25th October 2026, the new services aim to make travelling around Southend easier and more convenient. The 62A runs seven days a week between Southend Travel Centre and London Southend Airport, while the 62B operates during weekday peak periods, providing an additional loop via Stock Road. Together, the routes improve connections between residential areas, the airport and local employment opportunities.
To celebrate the launch and encourage residents to try the new services, Southend City Council is funding free travel on both routes from 25 to 31 October 2026.
I also think it is important for residents to have the opportunity to share their views on local transport and help shape future improvements. Southend City Council is currently inviting residents to take part in its Local Transport Plan consultation, which looks at the future of transport across the city from 2027 to 2045. I would encourage anyone who lives, works or travels in Southend to take part in the survey and share their experiences, ideas and suggestions. Whether it is improving bus routes, making journeys more accessible, or helping people travel more sustainably, everyone’s feedback can help ensure that future transport plans reflect the needs of our community.
