Published on: July 16, 2026
The updated SET Sexual Safety Toolkit, Guidance and Information Leaflet (Version 2 – May 2026) has now been published and are available for use across Southend, Essex and Thurrock. The documents have been developed jointly by the SET Safeguarding Adults Boards to support practitioners, providers and managers in recognising, responding to and managing concerns relating to sexual safety within care settings.
The resources include:
- Sexual Safety Guidance – comprehensive guidance for health and social care practitioners, provider staff, volunteers and managers on recognising sexual abuse, immediate response procedures, evidence preservation, safeguarding processes and allegations against staff.
- Sexual Safety Toolkit – a practical resource kit including a sexual safety intervention guide and traffic light system to support providers in responding proportionately to concerns and risks.
- Sexual Safety Information Leaflet – an accessible leaflet for adults with care and support needs, their families and advocates, explaining rights, reporting concerns and available support.
The documents were developed in response to learning identified through Safeguarding Adult Reviews across Southend, Essex and Thurrock and are intended for use across a wide range of care settings, including residential and nursing care, domiciliary care, supported living, hospital settings and day services.
