Shaping the future of local SEND services, together! – SAVS Parent Voice Ambassadors

Published on: August 5, 2026

We are incredibly proud to share this wonderful case study highlighting the power of co-production. Our Parent Voice Ambassadors (PVAs) are using their lived experiences to make a real, lasting difference for families navigating Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Southend.

Read what those involved thought about the process and how it’s helped:

Our Partner

“We’ve loved working with the SAVS Parent Voice Ambassadors. This continues to be a really valuable co-production project. Not only are we jointly improving web content on the SEND Local Offer, but we’re also developing a series of video podcasts, featuring parent carers at the heart. This is the first time we’ve developed this type of resource, and I’m sure it will benefit many local parents. Thank you for giving your time to the project and sharing your lived experience with us.”

— Louise Chiles, Local Offer and Co-Production Officer | Children’s and Public Health

The Parent Voice

“I decided to volunteer as a Parent Voice Ambassador (PVA) as my son has SEN needs, and I wanted to be a part of change and progress in the local services. I have been working with the SEN Local Offer team, tackling the accessibility, content and look of their website, to make navigation easier for parents.

I’ve also had the opportunity to record podcasts with the Early Years SEN team, interviewing them about the processes of a SEN diagnosis and educational options within Southend. I’ve really enjoyed working as a PVA and feel I’m playing a small, yet significant, part in shaping facilities for not just my son, but for other local families.”
