Young People’s Loneliness and Social Isolation Project – Your perspective matters.
The University of Essex is looking for young people to take part in a creative group research project exploring experiences of loneliness and/or social isolation.
Who can take part?
The project is aimed at people who:
- Are aged 16–24 years
- Live in or near Clacton, Harwich, Brightlingsea or the Southend area
- Feel lonely or socially isolated
What will participants do?
Get Creative
Take part in three group workshops and create images, such as photographs, representing experiences of loneliness and/or social isolation.
Share & Discuss
Discuss the images and personal experiences in a group with other young people.
Make a Difference
Work together to create an output from the project, such as a photo exhibition.
£20 Thank You
Participants will receive a £20 voucher per workshop as a thank-you for their time.

Who is doing the research and why?
The research is being carried out by a mental health research team at the University of Essex.
The findings will be used to help develop solutions to loneliness and improve support for young people.
The research has been approved by the University of Essex ethics committee (ETH2526-0992).
